British Gas owner Centrica has said it expects to see significantly higher adjusted operating profits in retail in the first half of this year than previous years.

In the statement published ahead of its annual general meeting, taking place today (13 June), the business explained the main driver of this was a material positive impact in British Gas Energy from allowances in the UK domestic tariff cap.
Its optimisation and infrastructure businesses, meanwhile, also remained in a good condition. For example, its performance in energy marketing and trading has remained strong, while the availability and volumes from its gas production, nuclear and gas strong assets have been good – helping to offset the impact of lower commodity prices.
