60 Second Interview with...
Ruksana Kauser, Member Services Advisor, Calderdale Credit Union
1. In your opinion, why do you think representation should be more championed in the industry?
A: Representation matters. If we can see you, we don’t believe it is possible. I want people who come from the same background have the same responsibilities like me to want to want more and continue to put themselves forward for roles in leadership. Lived experience is something I advocate for, and this is also important for women in leadership to advocate.

2. What advice would you give to the next generation of women in the industry?
A: It doesn’t matter if you’re young. Put yourself out there and grab opportunities. Say yes to opportunities that come your way as once you open one door you will find the key for the other doors you think are closed.
3. In your opinion or experience, please name 1-2 things that can be done by a) individuals b) companies and/or c) society to support the elevation of women in senior positions in the industry?
A: People around the “table” need to recognise that one size doesn’t fit all. Companies need to see that as young women with other responsibilities we can be leaders in and outside of the home. People in leadership positions also need to recognise that young professionals will need guidance, but once it is offered generally, we will grab it with both hands.
4. What does allyship mean to you and what advice would you give to those who want to be allies in their industry?
A: Allyship is opportunities and support from the most unexpected. I personally have had many doors opened since having allies here in the UK and across the pond, and it has helped shape me to who I am today.
