60 Second Interview with...

Simona Germanaviciute, Head of Client Services, JBR Capital

1. In your opinion, why do you think representation should be more championed in the industry?

A: We are used to seeing men's faces taking the top roles in most industries and we have created an internalized stereotype that only men can lead. Representation of diversity would help us to beat this old-fashioned stereotype and prove that is not the case. This will bring a much-needed range of views and perspectives, helping to make organisations well-rounded and more balanced.

2. What advice would you give to the next generation of women in the industry?

A: Be ambitious and do not be afraid or relentless to realize your value and take leadership positions. Find people that believe in you and can drive you forward. You can do it. We need you there.

3. In your opinion or experience, please name 1-2 things that can be done by a) individuals b) companies and/or c) society to support the elevation of women in senior positions in the industry?

A: Firstly, we have to establish the fact that diversity in senior positions is extremely poor. And why is that?  It is because so many women are afraid to take those positions and instead should actively be seeking them. So individually we should be aware that we are beyond capable and can do more in this case: apply for senior positions, express your ambitions to management, and let them know what your goals are. Actively seek feedback on what do you need to do to get where you want to be and take the appropriate steps forward.

Companies should make sure that their recruitment process supports diversity and that they are giving the opportunity to take senior positions to everyone despite their sex. A blind recruitment process can be implemented, to eliminate any bias during the assessment stages.
