Tandem Takes Financial Education on the Road

Tandem, consumer digital bank, has unveiled its new financial education programme – developed to address the financial needs of young adults, brought to them via a touring bus.

Research from the LIBF1 shows that 83% of students (aged 15-18) want to learn more about money and finance in school, and with the current cost of living crisis, this need is becoming ever more pressing.

Tandem’s programme is focused on building an understanding of financial products and common pitfalls, providing school & college leavers with the practical financial education they need as they navigate further studies and enter the world of work.

A bespoke 16-seater bus has been transformed into a modern and immersive mobile learning hub, ready to take on its initial tour across the North West, bringing financial education directly to local schools and colleges.

The need is clear – 66% of teachers say their school lacks the skills to effectively teach financial education and 70% say there are not adequate resources2.

Onboard the Tandem Bus, a course of 6 engaging 30-minute sessions will discuss good money management, and explore the pros and cons of many of today’s financial products and services. The course ultimately aims to drive smarter financial behaviours and help young people make more informed choices with their money.

Victoria Carter, head of engagement at Lancaster & Morecambe College, said “We really welcome this new Financial Education initiative from Tandem and are excited to be one of the initial launch partner institutions. It’s such an important topic for our students to really understand and engage with and we hope this course will equip them with a valuable life skill and help demystify the often confusing world of finances.”

Alex Mollart, deputy chief executive of Tandem Bank, said: “We’re really proud to launch our financial education programme in Lancashire, helping young people engage with and understand good financial management. This is an essential life skill; and our ambition is to ensure the next generation has the financial knowledge they need to make informed decisions about how best to manage their money.

“The programme has been designed to make this fun, inclusive and uncomplicated. We can’t wait to welcome Lancaster & Morecambe College students aboard the Tandem Bus!”

The programme was developed with sixth form pupils to ensure it is tailored to the needs of young adults, and will focus on topics such as Budgets, Money Safety, and Credit Scores.
